Me, I'll be watching on a 92" screen with 5.1 surround. Needless to say, I'm really looking forward to it.

I will acquire the show through...unofficial channels, but I rationalize this by saying that I'll buy the Blu-ray, like I did with BoB.

Anyone else? Getting together with friends?

Well, since January I've been going to my grandparents house to watch Band of Brothers every sunday night on HBO; I will watch it over there, while recording it at my house...they have a 48" rear projection HDTV and no sound system, with Dish HD.

At my house I've got a choice, a 42" LCD with a stereo receiver, or an XGA dlp projector and a 90 or so inch screen. After watching it with the family I plan to re-watch it in the next day or two at home where I can turn the sound up and the lights off and immerse myself in the show. While my projector isn't HD, having a screen that big is rather immersive, so i think I'm gonna watch it on that.

PS - What kind of projector do you have? I've got a Mitsubishi XD520u. I'm thinking of selling it and getting the Optoma HD66 though, which is 720p.

I have a Epson 1080UB projector. It's quite nice, although the noise from the auto iris can be a bit distracting.

It'll be kind of different watching it this time around. The first time I watched BoB was on DVD and then Blu-ray. This time, I'll be watching each episode shortly after it airs, which will give me time to rewatch each episode several times before the next one. Maybe it'll be a good thing this way as it'll allow me to follow all the threads better. I find I usually need a few watchings to get my head around all the characters, situations, etc.

oh man I'm jealous, you've got a bona-fide home theater going on with that thing! Last year, I had an Optoma HD65 which was 1600 lumens @ 720p, and I was amazed at the difference even between XGA and 720p. On screens that size you really notice the difference.

Well, I have a great, very understanding wife. :)

I'm in total agreement regarding resolution and large screen sizes. IMO, anything over 80" or so benefits from 1080p, provided you're sitting close enough. At the same time, 1080p on 40" plasmas/LCDs is kind of wasted, given how far people typically sit from their TVs.

I'm a big fan of projectors due to the movie theater like atmosphere they create. Really looking forward to experiencing "The Pacific" on my (relatively) big screen.

One other thing: if you can swing it, 1080p projectors have really come down in price. You might want to take a look at one of the Mitsubishis (can't remember the model number) or the Panasonic PTAE 4000, which you may be able to get for under 2 grand now.

we're looking at a budget around $600 for me right now on this kind of stuff; shouldn't be spending anything what with student loans and all...

Not to derail the thread or anything, but what our projector is used for is a 16'x9' movie screen in our backyard during the summer: http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php?t=1622545

This projector I've got now is xga @ 3000 lumens, but it looks like crap compared to my HD65 I used to have. Now I'm eyeballing the the HD66 which is 2400 or 2500 lumens @ 720p, with 4000:1 contrast ratio (which is where I think my XGA mitsu is lacking). best of all it's selling new online for around $650. 1080p would be nice, but for the most part we only use it from May thru September, and I don't want to take something that expensive outside on a regular basis, nevermind the fact I can't afford it right now.

on a normal TV show, maybe, but something like The Pacific begs to be given the cinematic treatment! My uncle has a 1080p CRT projector and a dedicated media room; I'd kill to watch it at his place. But I don't think it would be polite to invite myself over for 10 consecutive sunday nights.

Hopefully I'll see it Sunday night because I'll be going to the mountains for four days.

Yes, but I'd much rather focus on the conflict that's depicted on the screen, and not the actual conflict in the room that would result from us being together for 10 weekends straight. :)

well it may be a few months yet before I see it... possibly not till mid-winter (July)

And I expect to watch it on my rather ordinary 42" LCD. However my TV room is lovely so will light the fire, pour the wine and curl up with my loved one to watch 8-)

Too weird, winter in July. While you're trying to keep warm by the fire I'll be sweating like a slave and dodging hurricanes... :D

But I'll have seen the Pacific already....

Actually, you might have seen it by then, too, if the rumors about a June DVD release date are true!

yep, but it won't be released in NZ in June. We are always the last international zone (Asia) for any DVD release  So I always get my DVD's 6 months earlier from Amazon.

And even if Amazon sends me the DVD in June (fingers crossed) it probably won't get here before July.

Hey, maybe you'll get it the same day it premieres in NZ, then you won't have to wait for the next 9 episodes. That'd be better than Christmas or free beer on St. Patrick's Day!!! :D

if a big screen with surround sound isn't in order, I'll bet watching it on an HD computer monitor with a good pair of headphones will be pretty good too; as they say, it's not the size of the screen that counts, it's how close you sit to it :D

I'm jealous everyone will be able to watch them as they air. I'm gonna be at school for the next five weeks where I won't be able to watch it until I'm home for a weekend so I'll be stuck waiting. Luckily my parents are recording them for me. But considering how long I've anticipated this a few more weeks won't hurt.
